Character Education
Calling All Falcons: March we focus on Ownership of: your school, your actions and your words.
Character Education at FSS
F. Friendship A. Acceptance L. Leadership C. Citizenship O. Ownership N. Neighbourhood S. Success
The Character Education Committee continues to work hard to promote the personal qualities we want to see in all Falcons!
In March we promoted Ownership, encouraging students to take ownership of their words, actions and school. The Safe Schools Act, which became law in Ontario on February 1, has brought to the forefront concerns and consequences of hurtful, insulting language used by students towards each other. Our committee, with the help of Mr. Macdonald, did presentations for all our Grade 9 classes on this theme. To encourage students to take ownership of their school, we ran a ‘Cleanest Hall’ contest for 2 weeks in March. The winning hallway will have a banner to hang proudly in their area. The custodians were most impressed with how our students can keep their school clean when they choose. Keep it up!
In April, our focus is on Neighbourhood, ‘promoting global citizenship’. Frontenac students continue to demonstrate a strong global conscience, realizing there are many millions on this planet worse off than they are. We will be supporting the following initiatives this month: Students’ Council (Mrs. Bishop) is holding ‘Combinations for Haitiens’ and ‘Chili for Chili’. Please ask your son or daughter about these and encourage them to donate.
Spring Clean-up: The Interact club (Mrs. Davies) will be holding a spring cleanup with good used sports equipment going to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program,
toys and books for toddlers to a day care centre in need and collecting used cell-phones and chargers for their recyclable materials.
If you would like to contribute to any of these, please contact the above named staff member.
And for May?? May is ‘S’ for Success. We hope all students will work towards a successful school year and strive to be the best they can be.
