What is a Specialist High Skills Major?
The Specialist High Skills Major is (SHSM) an innovative program that enables students to customize their high school experience to suit their interests and talents while preparing them for a successful post secondary transition into apprenticeship training, college, university, or direct entry to employment.
Frontenac secondary students will have the opportunity to enroll and participate in the sectors of Arts and Culture OR Health and Wellness SHSM programs.
The SHSM programs at FSS consist of the following elements:
ARTS AND CULTURE HEALTH AND WELLNESS
4 Major Gr 11 and Gr 12 credits

4 Major Gr 11 and Gr 12 credits

1 Other credit (ie. check tracking sheet from Ms. Kasper)

1 Math credit (Gr 11or 12) & 1 extra Science credit
|
2 coop credits (can be paid or volunteer - related to arts - ie peer tutoring, and job or work at camp)

3 Mandatory Certifications ( First Aid, CPR, & WHMIS) see LDSB site below to access online certs)

- a variety of experiential learning opportunities and “Reach Ahead” activities or future pathway related events
