May 8 Newsletter
With the calendar turning to May we continue to see our students enjoy a variety of activities at Frontenac Secondary School. Rugby, track and field, soccer, ultimate and baseball are the sports for the spring season with hundreds of young athletes wearing the garnet and grey. Students in period three classes helped to beautify the school grounds last week by cleaning up the courtyards, the practice fields and the front of the school. We are still waiting for the arrival of plants to complete our front garden overhaul! The arts department has now filled their trip to Canada's Wonderland and will be preparing for their final performances for the school year in early June. Teaching staff are also organizing final field trips and school wide events to raise awareness for various people and special causes. As always, it is a good time to be a Falcon!
FSS Admin News
It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we prepare to say farewell to Shannon Tyner. Shannon's positive energy and infectious smile have been a tremendous gift for all staff and students at Acadie and Frontenac Secondary School this year. We know our school community wish her the best of luck as she transfers to the next chapter in her life. We know wherever you go, the people that you encounter will be better for the experience. To help fill the gap for the remainder of the school year, we welcome back an old friend. James Bonham-Carter will be returning as principal until the end of the school year. We know from his years of experience at Frontenac, James is well aware of the needs of staff and students and will provide the steady hand needed to successfully end the 2025-26 school year.
From Director Krishna Burra
Dear Families,
I am writing to share a few important updates and opportunities for families to provide input as we continue working together to support student learning, well-being for Limestone students. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and for taking the time to share your voice.
Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Now Open
The Limestone District School Board’s (LDSB) Family Engagement and Climate Survey is now live and we invite families to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.
Your feedback helps Limestone understand what is working well and where we can improve to continue to support welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.
The survey is open from today to May 11 and is available online. Paper copies are also available at your school’s administrative office.
Access the Family Engagement and Climate Survey online.
Participation is voluntary and anonymous. You may skip any questions you choose, and no identifying information is collected.
Thank you for sharing your voice and helping strengthen Limestone schools and school communities.
Student Achievement Plan (SAP) Update and Opportunity to Provide Feedback
We are pleased to share again a video update with families called Limestone’s 2025-2026 Student Achievement Plan in Action – EQAO Highlights. This short video explains LDSB’s Student Achievement Plan and how it guides our shared work to support student learning and well-being across our schools. This includes the 2024-2025 EQAO results.
The 2024-2025 Student Achievement Plan summary report is available on Limestone’s Student Achievement Plan webpage.
LDSB Senior Staff continue to support the implementation of both the Strategic Plan and the Student Achievement Plan by collaborating closely with school and system leaders. Our shared focus remains on improving student achievement in key academic areas, especially literacy and mathematics, preparing students for future success, and supporting student engagement and well-being.
To support this work, Senior Staff collaborate with the Program Team, Learning Partners, School Math Facilitators, and Instructional Coaches. Together, they build educator knowledge and skills through professional learning, instructional coaching, and the thoughtful use of assessment data to guide teaching.
Collaborating with school leaders continues to be an important focus this school year. Three goals guide this work: strengthening how schools use data, planning professional learning that supports school goals, and building shared leadership within school teams. At the system level, structures, supports, and resources are aligned to keep a clear focus on these goals and ensure accountability as we work together to support student success.
The Limestone District School Board values family feedback on the Student Achievement Plan. Please provide any feedback you wish to share about the SAP through this online form.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us, as well as for the many ways you support your student’s learning each day. Your feedback helps guide our decisions and strengthen our schools and communities.

Badminton - Our badminton program is growing stronger every year at FSS. This year the team took home two KASSAA Gold medals. Liv Cole and Vania Hauenstein won gold in the senior girls pairs, while Xavier Roy took the senior boys title as a grade 10. All 3 athletes moved on to EOSSAA where the duo of Liv and Vania earned a bronze medal! All our badminton players represented Frontenac with kindness while showing their competitiveness and that hardwork and numerous early morning hours pays off! Thank you to Mr. Roy, Ms. Martin and Steven Paul for your time and commitment to the team.
Soccer - Our girls and boys soccer programs have started fast and strong! The girls have been travelling around to several tournaments and showing how strong our girls soccer program is. Ms. Edmunds, Ms. Grover and Mr. Quirk are putting in the time and it is shows! The boys teams are also on a winning streak with both teams hoping to make playoffs starting next week. If you are looking for more soccer, go check out the Sentinels semi-professional games with our own gr. 12 Onni Packalen playing for the men's team and alum Marra Stanistreet on the Women's team. https://sentinels.club/
Track and Field - Our track and field team is starting off right where they left off last spring. We have over 100 students participating in T&F. Riley Topping and Daniel Fitzgerald both won the boys junior and senior 100m sprints. Aela McGregor won the 100m, Caleb Turner won the para 100m as well and many other students having success throwing, jumping, hurdling, going the distance, and sprinting. KASSAA is set for May 13-14th at Caraco Field. Keep up the great work Falcons!
Wyatt Lee- FSS Athletics is very proud to be apart of Wyatt Lee's journey in the Track and Field world. Wyatt has quickly made a name for himself locally, provincially, and nationally. Whether it be indoor or outdoor sprints Wyatt is consistently setting new records and winning recognition for his speed and determination to succeed. This week we had the honour of hosting Wyatt's signing event. The big reveal shared was that he will be a member of the Wolfpack attending North Carolina State. It is wonderful to see all of Wyatt's friends, families, coaches and in particular his elite level coaching staff from Toronto based Flying Angels. We wish Wyatt all the best! Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon!
Rugby - All 4 of our rugby teams this season have started with a bang! Our coaches have done an amazing job creating a club feel with all teams out to support one another and socialize with their opponents afterwards in true rugby fashion. Nothing says camaraderie amongst former foes like a barbequed hotdog! All teams are in the top 4 for standings with our senior girls leading the charge with a comfortable first place position in KASSAA.

As we approach the end of the school year and graduating students prepare for their next steps, there is understandably a great deal of anticipation and excitement for the future. As part of this celebration, graduating students, as well as younger secondary students, are recognizing graduates’ achievements in a variety of ways. However, we want to inform families about one particular activity that has become increasingly concerning from a safety standpoint. “Senior Assassin” is a popular game among graduating students across North America that involves students “assassinating” one another using water guns, gel projectiles, or foam darts. The last person who avoids being “assassinated” wins. While the game is intended to be harmless, many of the imitation weapons used closely resemble real firearms. Police services are warning that these replica firearms pose significant safety risks, particularly in public spaces. As reported in a recent CBC article, Senior Assassin game ‘creates risk’ of public mistaking water guns for real guns, WRPS warns, Waterloo Regional Police note that participants often follow others, hide in bushes or behind vehicles in parking lots, or run through neighbourhoods while carrying realistic-looking devices that resemble firearms. In the article, a Waterloo Regional Police officer explains that it can be extremely difficult for police or members of the public to distinguish imitation firearms from real firearms, particularly at a distance or in high-stress situations. As a result, any report involving a possible weapon must be treated as real until proven otherwise, creating serious risk for everyone involved. With this in mind, we ask that graduating students refrain from participating in the “Senior Assassin” game. Student and staff safety are always our top priority, and we encourage students to recognize and celebrate achievements, including graduation, in ways that ensure everyone remains safe. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
