Today, midterm report cards were sent home with students. These marks will be available online in Aspen and myBlueprint on Friday, November 28th as well. Please remember that exams and culminating course activities will be taking place in January. Students are expected to be available to write exams during exam days: January 22-28. The FSS January exam schedule will be shared with our next newsletter on December 5. The past two weeks we have had numerous successes and achievements to highlight. Teaching and learning continues to be the focus at Frontenac and this has been supplemented by a number of excursions around the city and beyond. The construction of a pirate ship deck in the cafeteria signals that Treasure Island rehearsals continue full speed ahead. The Arts department also organized a Remembrance Day ceremony that had over 100 students share musical and dramatic performances to pay respect for the many sacrifices of veterans and their families. Tryouts for winter sports are well underway despite the fall sports season not quite concluded. We still await the final OFSSA results of our Senior Girls Basketball in Sarnia this weekend and our Senior Boys Football who play Tuesday, November 25th against the York region champions.

FSS Attendance Policy

We'd like to thank parents for their ongoing assistance with attendance at FSS. Please continue using the Safe Arrival app to approve student absences, before or the day of the absence. For all absence and late reporting a day or more after please email Kerri Merriam at merriamk@limestone.on.ca. In your email please include your students full name, reason for the absence/late and the date. This helps to manually track the information outside of the automated Safe Arrival system. If students are signed out of school, they should not be on school property (i.e. parents cannot sign students out of class to study in the FSS library, or to spectate a sporting event on school property). Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns regarding student attendance. We know winter driving may create some more lates in the morning. We encourage everyone to drive safe for the conditions and excuse any lates related to weather conditions.

OSSLT at FSS

The majority of students in grade 10 wrote the Literacy Test this past week. Successful completion of the Literacy Test is a graduation requirement in Ontario. Grade 11 and 12 students and grade 10 students who were absent and still need to demonstrate their literacy requirement will write the test on Wednesday, November 26th. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions regarding the rewrite of the OSSLT on November 26.

FSS Arts

On November 11th, Frontenac Secondary School under the leadership of Scott Davey, honoured our veterans through their Remembrance Day ceremony. Many students donated their talents through dramatic and musical performances to affirm our respect for our veterans. In early December, the Frontenac musical department will be visiting our elementary feeder schools for many performances. Friday, December 12th, Frontenac will be hosting the annual evening Winter Concert in the FSS Library.

FSS Athletics

We are beginning to wrap up a successful fall sports season and make preparations for the upcoming winter season as well. On Saturday, November 15th, our junior boys football team lost a heartbreaker to Holy Cross by a score of 15-10. In the senior final, the Falcons were prepared for the less than ideal weather conditions and were able to smother the Saints offence early and often. With the 31-6 victory, Frontenac clinched their berth in the OFSSA bowl series and will play Huron Heights on Tuesday, November 25th in Guelph at 5:00pm. With the end of the fall sports season, we would be remiss if we did not take time to reflect and be grateful for all of the personal and team accomplishments over the first sports season of the school year. According to our data, we had 287 student-athletes that participated in tennis, rugby 7's, football, basketball, Special Olympics soccer, cheer team, field hockey, golf, cross country running and volleyball. The life lessons learned through sport help to build character and provide vital opportunities to develop friendships and lifelong memories. Of course this level of commitment from our students to play organized sport would not be possible without our coaches. This fall we had 34 staff members coach teams, were fortunate to have 18 community coaches and managers, 1 student teacher from Queen's University, and 20 PAL's support Special Olympics soccer. Thank you to everyone involved for bettering the Frontenac school community.

Parking at FSS

Reminder that students should not be parking in the staff parking spots and that students should be parking in a designated spot within yellow lines. With winter weather coming, we know that this will become more of a challenge, especially when snow accumulates. We have noticed that some students have been double parking/blocking in cars specifically near the entrance by the gymnasium. This is an important area to keep clear as busses have not been able to get through this area. Students are parking beyond the designated areas which has dangerously narrowed the area for buses to travel through. There is often unused parking at the front-west entrance of the building facing Bath Road and we ask that students use this area to make our parking lot safer.

Remembrance Day

IMG 7037

On Saturday, November 8th, a group of Frontenac students volunteered to place flags on the graves of veterans at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Glenburnie.    This year, we were joined by Bayridge students and two members of the community who serve in the military.  It was a rewarding experience to see all the flags fluttering in the breeze in preparation for the Remembrance Day service the next day. As a thank you, Arbor Memorial makes a donation to a charity of our choice.  This year, the donation was given to "Soldier On",  a program of the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group (CAFTG) that contributes to the recovery of ill and injured CAF members and veterans by providing opportunities and resources through sport, recreational, and creative activities.

Multicultural Team at FSS

Here at Frontenac Secondary School, diversity is happening now. The Multicultural Team put together a special event for Hindu Appreciation Month during the lunch period on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, that the team hopes will help to spread Hindu culture around and show the true diversity that the school has to show. All the money raised will be going to QCODE. “QCODE is a Canadian NGO that focuses on improving education and literacy for children in developing countries,” says Urvi Khanvilkar, the Multicultural Team’s student representative for QCODE.

The event was held in the main foyer, where there was homemade chai, arabic coffee, cookies, samosas, sauces, and other amazing cultural foods. There was also mehndi tattooing that was being done by several people. Guest henna artist @sarahshenna_studio supported the mehndi team.

The team hopes that the event, which was the very first of the multicultural team, will set the groundwork for a more inclusive, culturally diverse school where people aren’t afraid to share their own culture, and will also help the Multicultural Team to gain recognition from peers.

Vrain Rikhi is the founder of Frontenac’s newest multicultural club. “It’s super important to have a safe place for [students, particularly racialised students] to spread their culture around, spread their traditions throughout the school,” Rikhi adds.

MulticMath Tutoring and Support

Every Monday evening from 7:00–8:00 pm in Room 118, our FSS math teachers run a Math Tutorial to help students strengthen their skills, review concepts, and prepare for upcoming assessments. This drop-in program is open to all grade levels and provides a supportive environment for students to ask questions and build confidence.

FSS Social Sciences

Mr. Campbell’s 10th grade history students had a great time exploring the S.S. Keewatin on Thursday, November 13. This hands-on learning opportunity brought Canadian maritime history to life! Students enjoyed the authentic historical atmosphere, and had a chance to gain a real sense of early 1900s travel. The S.S. Keewatin served as a luxury passenger steamship on the Great Lakes from 1907 to 1965. It still contains original furnishings including elegant staterooms, a grand dining salon, and the ship's original china dinnerware. This field trip complemented our unit on early 20th century Canadian transportation and immigration.

 Student Census - November 24-28

See Yourself in Limestone – Student Census Survey

Limestone is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.

The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. This data is then paired with academic information to help us understand what school is like for different groups of students.

Important information for families:

· The survey is optional.

· Responses are confidential and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer.

· Students will complete the survey during class time.

· Students who do not participate will be provided with an alternative activity.

Families that did not want their student(s) to complete the survey needed to opt out prior to Friday, November 14, 2025. Opting out means the student will not receive the survey in their e-mail inbox.

By better understanding students’ identities and experiences, we can remove barriers and better support students in accessing what they need to succeed.
