FSS Admin
Welcome to the end of another week of learning both inside and outside of the classroom at FSS! This week we enjoyed a trivia event hosted by our school trivia team, cheered on our athletic teams and met many parents/guardians at our semester 1 parent/teacher interviews. Thank you to all families who were able to join us to discuss your child's progress to date. You are important partners in the work we do here at the school, and we value these opportunities to meet face to face and discuss your child's achievements and next steps.
This week we also said a "see you soon" to our Principal, Ms. Grasse, who began a temporary planned leave. During her absence, we will be welcoming Ms. Tyner back who retired from FSS as Principal last spring, and will join us as Acting Principal until Ms. Grasse's return.
Safe Arrival***Important Update Required***
Please update your SchoolMessenger app to the new/updated version called SM Home. You login the same way you currently do, and you will be able to see all your students, but this app will allow for you to enter early departures for secondary students. You can completely delete the old app.
FSS Honour Awards Night
This week emails were sent to students and parents who will be recognized at our Honour Awards Night coming up on Wednesday, October 28th beginning at 6:00 pm. This is an event where we acknowledge outstanding academic achievements from last year at FSS (2025-2026).
FSS Library and Computers
As always, we will gladly accept any and all overdue library books. Students that no longer require a laptop can return them to the library to Ms. Purbhoo or to the main office to Mr. McKenna.
Europe 2028
The Frontenac Secondary School English Department is organizing a March Break field trip to the Mediterranean Coast, including stops in Italy, Monaco, the French Rivera, and Spain, from March 9 - 17, 2028. This is an enrichment opportunity for students in the Senior AP English Program at FSS, as well as other interested students from FSS.
There will be an information meeting later in the fall for interested families and confirmed travelers. For now, please see our tour page for more info or reach out to the trip leader, Ms. Cavers (caverse@limestone.on.ca) with any questions. To enrol and ensure your spot on this trip, follow the links on the tour page here: www.eftours.ca/3078335du

A reminder to grade 12 students and families to please consider doing the following:
- Online Research: A good starting point for College & University programs in Ontario is the OCAS and OUAC websites. If students are looking to apply to schools outside of Ontario, they will need to be researched individually.
- Attend Liaison Visits: We will continue to have recruiters from post-secondary schools visiting Frontenac throughout the Fall. Students are encouraged to attend the presentations for schools they are interested in. The list of dates and the QR code to sign up can be found on the Google Classroom.
- Campus Visits/Open Houses: Seeing what it's like to travel to a school, where it's situated in the city, and getting the general vibe of the campus goes a long way in the decision making process. Some of the best times to do this is during the schools Fall Open Houses as professors and recruiters will be on hand to answer questions and most buildings will be open for viewing. The link to the list of Open House dates for Ontario Colleges & Universities can be found on the Google Classroom.
Students and parents/guardians are reminded that if they ever have any questions, or wish to talk to someone about school, future plans, or otherwise, they can book an appointment to meet with a guidance counsellor here: https://bookings.cloud.microsoft/book/FSSStudentServices@limestoneschools.onmicrosoft.com/?ismsaljsauthenabled

FSS English Field Trip
On Friday Oct. 9, 38 students from the senior AP English program visited The Screening Room to wrap up their study of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. They watched the 1985 adaptation of the play starting Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich, then screened the Oscar-winning picture, Little Miss Sunshine. We had a beautiful day watching some incredible films!
Science
Our Earth & Space Science class enjoyed a field trip to Queen's on October 8th to further enrich their classroom learning. Students were exploring the rock museum at Miller Hall and learned about the phases of the moon and to use their fists to measure 10 degree arcs in the sky. Please enjoy their photos below.
Social Sciences
This fall, Mr. Campbell’s Grade 10 History classes set sail on their annual “Trip to the Ship” excursion to the S.S. Keewatin and the Great Lakes Museum. Students had the opportunity to step aboard a beautifully preserved Edwardian steamship and experience what travel on the Great Lakes was like over 100 years ago. Through guided tours and hands-on learning, students explored Canada’s transportation history, life aboard passenger ships, and the important role the Great Lakes have played in shaping our country.
Social Sciences field trip to the Toronto Zoo
This week, students in the the Introduction to Sociology, Psychology and Anthropology enjoyed an experiential learning opportunity to the Toronto Zoo! Please enjoy photos below of some of the fellow creatures we share this earth with who they learned about.
