FSS Admin
As always, there has been lots of activity in the past two weeks at FSS. The upcoming week officially marks the middle of semester one as grade 10 students will be transitioning from Careers to Civics on Thursday. On October 21st, the Arts department hosted the biggest Coffee House ever and we wish to thank all the performers and attendees for making this possible. The support and encouragement of fellow students and audience members made the stellar performances possible. Student Council organized a Spirit Week which culminated with the Monster Mash event that pitted staff against students in a friendly basketball game. To attend the event, Frontenac students raised $1675 to support their fellow students in need. The cooler fall weather let's us know that final events for fall sports is upon us. Please check kassaa.ca for results and official schedules for all sports.
Safe Arrival***Important Update Required***
Please update your SchoolMessenger app to the new/updated version called SM Home. You login the same way you currently do, and you will be able to see all your students, but this app will allow for you to enter early departures for secondary students. You can completely delete the old app.
Spirit Week
Thank you to student council for organizing Spirit Week. With school in full swing, it is a good reminder for everyone that although learning is important and sometimes hard to do, school can also be relaxing and fun. Costume events such as Twin Day, Flannel/Plaid Day, PJ/Cozy Day and Costume/Black & Orange Day allowed multiple entry points for students and staff to engage in showing their Falcons spirit.
FSS School to Community
The holiday season is just around the corner, and our School to Community classes at Frontenac Secondary School are excited to announce the return of our annual Poinsettia Fundraiser!
This fundraiser helps support our students by making participation in Special Olympics events, community outings, and memorable field trips throughout the school year more affordable. Your generosity allows us to continue offering these valuable experiences while keeping costs as low as possible for our students and their families.
We are pleased to once again partner with Rekker's Garden in Toronto, a trusted supplier that has provided us with beautiful, high-quality plants year after year.
With a wonderful selection of poinsettias in various sizes and colours, along with festive planters and potted plants, there is something for everyone! Whether you're decorating your home for the holidays or looking for a thoughtful seasonal gift, your purchase will make a meaningful difference for our students.

AP Exam Registration
Students enrolled in our Enriched Gr. 11/12 English, Enriched Gr. 12 Calculus, and Enriched Gr. 12 Physics programs have been busy preparing for the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exams that are to be written in May 2027. Our Guidance staff have communicated with the students currently enrolled in these courses to outline the registration process for these AP Exams.
However, what you may not know is that there are many other AP Exams offered by the College Board each year. A comprehensive list can be found on the College Board website here: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/exam-administration-ordering-scores/exam-dates. If students wish to self-study and write one of these other AP Exams this Spring, they should connect with their Guidance Counsellor to learn more about the registration process.
The deadline to register for the exams is November 11th if they wish to pay the early bird fee of $155 per exam. However, students can still register up until mid-March but the price increases to $195 per exam.

FSS Library and Computers
We have noted that students that have devices that were not connected to school wi-fi for a long period of time are having error messages appear on the screen and are unable to connect at school. Students were warned that this would happen and it went into effect on October 9th. Students with these error messages need to bring their computers into the school so that we can fix it on our end. Students may bring their computers to the library and Ms Purbhoo will complete the IT ticket to have them fixed. It may take a few days before students get their devices back. If need be, we can accommodate for this.
FSS French
Calling all students taking a French class this year at Frontenac! Ever wanted to further develop your language skills in an authentic setting? If so, the Official Languages program is the place for you. On Tuesday Nov 17, a representative from the program will be here at Frontenac to share with all grade 9 students the details of how you can take part in this exciting opportunity. Please see the pamphlet below and or reach out to Mme McDonald in the Moderns office if you have any questions. If you are a grade 10-12 student who would like to attend this presentation, please sign up with Mme McDonald in the Moderns office. https://englishfrench.ca/apply-now-explore/?utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=24123275657&gbraid=0AAAAApKIGsvzErDP_Rs0RsCIJQJqohDME&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyNCmq7zdlwMVAl9HAR3K4hB9EAAYASAAEgJRfPD_BwE
FSS Arts
A Fantastic Start for Performing Arts!
Our first Coffee House of the year brought together students from Grades 7–12 to share their creativity—including a record-breaking number of Grade 9 participants! Bands had the crowd moving in their seats, vocalists captivated the room, and the Drama Club delivered spooky laughs with their Halloween sketches. Thank you to everyone who took the stage and helped create such a welcoming evening, and to the audience for cheering them on! Whether you’re trying something new or already love being on stage, we’d love to have you join us at our April Coffee House. Families and friends are warmly invited to come and enjoy the evening! In the meantime, the Performing Arts Department is busy preparing for Remembrance Day, our elementary school tours, and our Winter Concert. New members are always welcome!
From Classroom to Stage: Come From Away
Our senior drama classes, Drama Club, and SHSM Arts and Culture students recently visited the beautiful Thousand Islands Playhouse on the banks of the St. Lawrence River to see the musical Come From Away. For our senior drama students, who have been studying the musical and developing their own performances from it, watching professional artists bring its characters, stories, and songs to life was especially exciting. A post-show talkback with the cast offered a behind-the-scenes look at the production—and we’ve had the songs stuck in our heads ever since! What a wonderful opportunity to connect classroom learning with live performance and experience professional theatre right in our own backyard.
FSS Business
Last week, members of the Business DECA Club travelled to KSS to participate in mock regional case study competitions. Students represented our school exceptionally well, demonstrating their problem-solving skills and presenting creative solutions to a variety of business challenges. A special shout-out to Mae Gillis for her outstanding performance! Students are continuing to prepare for the upcoming regional competition on November 12 and 13.
Students in the SHSM Business program and Grade 12 Sports and Entertainment Marketing class recently participated in a workshop led by a local sports photographer and graphic designer. They explored the importance of networking, communication, and creativity in the business and marketing industries. Students also put their learning into practice through a marketing assignment in which they developed and presented their own ideas. It was exciting to see their ideas validated by an industry professional, highlighting the value of connecting classroom learning with real-world experience.
Europe 2028
The Frontenac Secondary School English Department is organizing a March Break field trip to the Mediterranean Coast, including stops in Italy, Monaco, the French Rivera, and Spain, from March 9 - 17, 2028. This is an enrichment opportunity for students in the Senior AP English Program at FSS, as well as other interested students from FSS.
There will be an information meeting later in the fall for interested families and confirmed travelers. For now, please see our tour page for more info or reach out to the trip leader, Ms. Cavers (caverse@limestone.on.ca) with any questions. To enroll and ensure your spot on this trip, follow the links on the tour page here: www.eftours.ca/3078335du
Honour Awards Night
On October 28th, FSS celebrated Honour Awards from the 2025-26 school year. Paraphrasing the words of Ms. Shannon Tyner and Ms. Krista Lackey, it was noted that success does not happen in isolation but when parents, staff, mentors and students are working together and supporting one another. That when we know better, we can do better and that learning is not easy and sometimes can be very messy. What was not messy about this evening (at least not initally!) were the baked treats made by the students in the foods classes under the guidance of Ms. Chantal Lloyd and Ms. Lauren Edmunds.
FSS Technology
For all technology courses, safety is taught to all students to properly use machines. Below, is a phot that is showing students how the machine works. Although the machine was not running at the time that this photo was taken, can you spot the error that was specifically being taught by Mr Garofalo to his class at this time?

Southeast Public Health
· “Attention, parents and caregivers!” – A gentle reminder that Ontario students are required to have up-to-date immunization records on file with public health units. Records are not always automatically shared by health-care providers. This insert explains how families can submit immunization records and book an appointment with Southeast Public Health.
· “Immunization through the lifespan” – An overview of vaccines that help protect against diseases at different stages of life. This insert helps families understand which vaccines may be due at various ages and how to book an appointment with Southeast Public Health.
· “Connection Matters” – Featured in the November/December issue of School Health Connect, this insert highlights how strong social connections help children feel safe, supported, and better able to cope with challenges. It offers practical examples of how families can build meaningful connections through everyday moments.
