FSS Admin Messages
Welcome to October! Although we are a little saddened that we do not have the Blue Jays to follow this fall, there is plenty of activity at Frontenac to keep us occupied. This week, our grade 10 careers students completed the first ever financial literacy test, which is a new graduation requirement. As a staff we are continuing to work on our implementation of the Education Minister's mandates regarding the evaluation of attendance and participation as part of a student's grade. We strongly encourage conversations at home with students that encourage regular attendance and participation in their classes. There are many ways students can participate, and teachers are working with classes to understand the various ways participation is being tracked and monitored throughout the semester. If you have questions about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher.
Extra-curricular activities are in full swing. Many of our clubs are up and running; meeting at lunch and after school. It is never too late to join! Practices, games, meets and tournaments continue for our student athletes and coaches. The arts community is rehearsing and making plans for the first Coffee House of the year, which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21st. Life is good at Frontenac and we encourage all of our students to find their place to get involved.
Parent/Teacher Night
The semester one Parent/Teacher is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Different from last year, our interviews will be held in the Library (Teacher surnames A-G) and the Cafeteria (Teacher surnames H-Z). We strongly encourage parents not to book interviews back to back if they must travel between these two locations. We will also encourage parents and students that have mobility concerns to use the elevator that is located near the English wing on the 1st floor and just outside the Library on the 2nd floor. Booking for Parent/Teacher Night will open at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 7th.
FSS School Council
Thank you to those that attended our first School Council night on September 22nd. The next meetings have been scheduled for: Thursday, November 19th, Thursday, February 25th (meeting to be held virtually) and Thursday, May 20th. All meetings begin at 6:00 pm. All parents and guardians of the Frontenac and Acadie school community are invited to join.

The photo proofs have been sent home with your child and the deadline to order school photos with FREE Ship-to-School delivery is Tuesday Oct. 6th 2026. Please place your order at edgeimaging.ca/order using the portrait code and pass code on your proof. If the proof has been misplaced, you can look up your codes at edgeimaging.ca/lookup. We don’t want you to miss out on this special keepsake.
FSS Arts
Students are planning, rehearsing and preparing acts for Frontenac's first Coffee House on Wednesday, October 21st. The show begins at 7:00 pm and a donation of $2.00 at the door will be used to help offset music equipment expenses. Please see or reach out to members of the arts department for more information.
FSS PAL
On Tuesday, September 29th, the School to Community and PAL classes competed in Special Olympics soccer at LCVI. Congratulations to the Falcons team of Ashlee, Béi, Gaije, Gemma, Isaac and PALs, and the Garnet team of Caleb, Holly, Isaiah, Kason, Maddy and PALs, on a fantastic day with lots of fun memories made!
FSS Honours Truth and Reconciliation
On Wednesday, September 30th FSS and Acadie honoured the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Five student leaders led our school community in a video assembly (produced by Lauren Barnett) that FSS and Acadie students watched simultaneously in their morning classrooms. Amara Nanji and Liv Insley (Co-Presidents), Victoria McCourt and Mathew Katz (Indigenous and Urban Student Trustees), and Kennedy Hoobink (Acadie) asked us to consider 4 key words:
Victoria McCourt also shared with us a personalized land acknowledgement about what the land means to her.
At lunch time, students organized a bake sale and are donating the proceeds ($302.20) to a local organization: the Kingston Native Centre & Language Nest (KNCLN).
They also had an opportunity to lay down orange flags in remembrance of the students who never returned home from residential school.
These remembrance flags were set alongside student-created road signs about Truth & Reconciliation in order to raise awareness within our Kingston community.
Finally our morning announcements, school decor, and other avenues for learning allowed students to reflect.
At FSS and Acadie, we understand that Truth and Reconciliation includes acknowledging the harm caused by residential schools, remembering the children who never returned home, listening to Indigenous voices, committing to ongoing learning, and taking action. Reconciliation includes taking responsibility for building a brighter future based on respect, understanding, and meaningful change.
FSS Terry Fox
Thank you students and staff for your participation with this year's Terry Fox. Although we fell short of our goal, we are thankful and proud to provide $1891.05 to help fight cancer.
FSS Honour Awards Night
Honour Awards Night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28th beginning at 6:00 pm. This is an event where we acknowledge outstanding academic achievements from the previous school year at FSS. Students in grades 10-12 who attended FSS last year and will be recognized at this evening can expect more information coming soon.
FSS Library and Computers
As always, we will gladly accept any and all overdue library books. Students that no longer require a laptop can return them to the library to Ms. Purbhoo or to the main office to Mr. McKenna.
FSS Student Services
We hope everyone has settled in well to the 2026-27 school year. As the year progresses, the best way for students and families to stay informed about volunteer opportunities, upcoming events and deadlines is to join the Student Services Google Classrooms:
- Grade 9: https://classroom.google.com/c/ODU2MTQ4MDQ2ODEw?cjc=k3v6mh5i
- Grade 10: https://classroom.google.com/c/NzgyNzAyNTk2NTQ3?cjc=ro6txlsw
- Grade 11: https://classroom.google.com/c/NzE2MDcwOTM1OTU5?cjc=pszlqqk
- Grade 12: https://classroom.google.com/c/NzM2MTA0ODgyMDA3?cjc=tx7skex
- Returners: https://classroom.google.com/c/NzE1ODI1NjAzNzAy?cjc=s4kifs7
This is particularly important for our Grade 12 Students as they work towards graduating in June and completing post-secondary planning. This Fall, grade 12 students, returners, and their families should spend time researching post-secondary programs, schools, training, and careers with the goal of creating a shortlist of options. To help with this, please consider doing the following:
- Online Research: A good starting point for College & University programs in Ontario is the OCAS and OUAC websites. If students are looking to apply to schools outside of Ontario, they will need to be researched individually.
- Attend Liaison Visits: We will continue to have recruiters from post-secondary schools visiting Frontenac throughout the Fall. Students are encouraged to attend the presentations for schools they are interested in. The list of dates and the QR code to sign up can be found on the Google Classroom.
- Campus Visits/Open Houses: Seeing what it's like to travel to a school, where it's situated in the city, and getting the general vibe of the campus goes a long way in the decision making process. Some of the best times to do this is during the schools Fall Open Houses as professors and recruiters will be on hand to answer questions and most buildings will be open for viewing. The link to the list of Open House dates for Ontario Colleges & Universities can be found on the Google Classroom.
- Post-Secondary Application Workshops: All students who are applying to post-secondary school this year are encouraged to attend in order to learn more about the application process, key dates, scholarships, etc. They will be held on the following days:
- Tuesday, October 6th @ 11:00 AM in the Learning Commons
- Thursday, October 8th @ 11:00 AM in the Learning Commons
- Wednesday, October 14th @ 5:30 PM in Room 276 (Open to Parents/Guardians)
It will be the same presentation each time, so students can pick whichever date/time works best for them. For the lunch sessions, students can bring a lunch and eat it in the Learning Commons during the presentation.
Students are reminded that if they ever have any questions, or wish to talk to someone about school, future plans, or otherwise, they can book an appointment to meet with a guidance counsellor here: https://bookings.cloud.microsoft/book/FSSStudentServices@limestoneschools.onmicrosoft.com/?ismsaljsauthenabled

Southeast Public Health
If your student is complaining of blurred vision, cannot see clearly from longer distances or getting frequent headaches, perhaps eye care is needed. Students that have a valid Ontario health card are eligible from a yearly free exam.
We always encourage appropriate physical activity for students. Challenging students to walk or wheel to school is a great way to build regular fitness into the weekday and reduce congestion and environmental footprint.
Safe Arrival
How to report an absence
In some instances, students may need to be away from school for illness, appointments or other events. Parents/caregivers can use the SafeArrival system to report a full day absence, an extended student absence and also a late arrival to school. When reporting an absence for a secondary student parents/caregivers will also be able to select an early departure. To report an absence, use one the following methods:
