Message from the Director

Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Your feedback helps strengthen communication, support student well-being, and improve school experiences for everyone.More information will be shared leading up to the survey being live in early May. <a href="https://youtu.be/kKxSsDtggew" class="editor-link">Families are encouraged to watch a short video</a> featuring Senior Staff and a Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) Co-Chair, who share more about the Family Engagement and Climate Survey and why family voice is so important.Human Rights InformationLaunched in October 2022, the Limestone’s Student Human Rights Reporting Tool provides a way for students, families, caregivers, and staff to report human rights concerns involving LDSB students, including matters related to discrimination and harassment. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/documents/dff6803b-6f2d-4d36-a758-68758a63ceb3/2026-04-09-Student-Human-Rights-Data-Summary-for-2024-2025.pdf?fingerprint=ppb20260409164623" class="editor-link">Student Human Rights Reports – 2024-2025 Summary is now available online</a> and can be accessed by families. Student Census 2025 UpdateIn November 2025, Limestone completed the See Yourself in Limestone: Student Census 2025, a voluntary and confidential survey that helps us better understand students’ identities and school experiences. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting. Families are encouraged to <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/news/see-yourself-in-limestone-2025-student-census-update-20260416133605" class="editor-link">visit the Limestone District School Board website to review the full Student Census summary</a> and learn more about how student voice is helping shape our work. Mental Health Supports Available for StudentsIn response to tragic events, locally or globally, students may experience a wide range of emotions, including sadness, confusion, worry, or questions about what they may be hearing from others. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation. With time, reassurance, and support from caring adults, these reactions often ease.We encourage families to keep lines of communication open at home, to invite questions, and to offer reassurance as needed. Neurovibes Celebrates Neurodiversity April 29, 2026

As Mr. Davey said last week, winter has had more sequels than a Rocky movie, but we hope that we are officially moving into spring! Despite the snow, this week saw many of our spring teams launch into action and we look forward to sunny days ahead to cheer them on! <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Trivia Team</h2><img src="/images/13880ba8-a241-439a-a8c7-a551561a8fa9?fingerprint=ppb20260409184739" alt="April 10 2026 Trivia6a82f4e4 91f7 4ede 9d05 524a9bd35fbf" width="309" height="236" style="width:309px;height:236px;display:inline-block;float:left">We are thrilled to share that our Trivia Team has won the Reach For The Top regional championship for the second consecutive year. This achievement has earned them a place at the Provincial championships in May. In addition, the team has qualified for the highly competitive Consensus Nationals, an incredible accomplishment that reflects their dedication, knowledge, and teamwork. As they prepare to represent the Falcons on these stages, the team will be organizing fundraising initiatives to help offset travelling and competition costs. We are incredibly proud of their success and look forward to cheering them on!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Managing Stress and Wellness Student Workshop - April 15 @ Lunch</h2>FSS is hosting the Queen's University Clinical Psychology Outreach Program for a student workshop next week. From May 21–22, students will travel to Stratford to see live performances of The Tempest and Something Rotten!.In addition to attending both shows, students will take part in a pre-show workshop for Something Rotten! where they’ll explore the behind-the-scenes world of theatre production. There will also be scheduled free time for students to explore the town.The cost of the trip is $340 per student, which includes coach transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfast, the workshop, and tickets to both performances. Permission forms and full payment are due May 1st to Ms. Dembinski or Ms. Cavers, and payment can be made on School Day. Space is limited, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Arts</h2>The Coffee House will take place Wednesday April 15th from 7 to 9 pm in the Library. This will showcase the talents of many of the various musical ensembles, as well as several solo acts.There will be delicious snacks and drinks available for purchase. This evening has a positive, casual vibe, soaudience members are encouraged to arrive and leave as best suits them. During the interactive workshops, topics covered included transformative leadership, advertising and personal branding.It was neat to see our students contributing to the group discussions, reflecting on influential leadership examples from their personal lives, and to see so many of the concepts we've discussed in class being applied to real-life situations. <img src="/images/880a08c0-9847-456e-9088-fef31711e6a2?fingerprint=ppb20260409184710" alt="April 9 2026PXL 20260330 174253432.MP (1)" width="256" height="340" style="width:256px;height:340px;display:inline-block;float:right">And then on March 30th, senior business students participated in a workshop led by Wendy Stephen (Lakeside City Councilor), focused on the revitalization of Centre 70, the Memorial Centre, and Portsmouth Harbour. During the session, students explored the planning process the city undertakes, including research and community engagement in shaping the future of Centre 70.Students generated a wide range of innovative ideas and will continue developing these concepts into pitch presentations for a potential partnership at the Centre 70 site. It was inspiring to see the high level of interest and enthusiasm students brought to the project.We are grateful that Beth & Wendy were able to share their energy & expertise with the FSS business students, much appreciated!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2"> FSS School to Community</h2>On Tuesday, March 31st, Frontenac hosted the first ever Kingston area Special Olympics Handball tournament! Athletes from 6 schools participated in skills and drills led by FSS volunteers in the morning, followed by games in the afternoon. Thank you to all of the PALs and volunteers who made this day possible. Summer Session is a great option for students who wish to complete an additional credit (new) or who may need to repeat a course during the summer. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. Should you have any questions or wish to register, please make an appointment to meet with your Guidance Counsellor.  <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Dual Credits </h2>We are happy to share that the Fall 2026 Dual Credit courses have been released by St. Lawrence College.  These are a great opportunity for gr. 11 and 12 students to earn high school credits while studying at a local college or taking apprenticeship training; gain experience that will help them with their post-secondary education or apprenticeship; and get a head start on learning and training for their future careers. It's been great to reconnect with our Falcons this week, after what we hope was a restful and rejuvenating March Break. Thank you to the families that were able to attend our Parent/guardian night on March 26th. For those who were not able to attend, please reach out to your child's teachers anytime if you have questions or concerns regarding their progress. Midterm report cards will be sent home with students on May 1, 2026. This week we saw our spring teams hustling through the halls as after school practices began, and we wished our curling team well as they competed at OFSAA in Thunder Bay! Our Arts department enjoyed a quick break following their large scale production of Treasure Island, and they are now gearing up for an upcoming FSS Coffee House. At grade forums this week, we encouraged students to continue working hard, and accessing extra support that is available through their teachers and various supports in the school. We also reminded students about the importance of daily attendance, communicating ahead when they plan to be away, and that staying on top of missed work is their responsibility. Finally, we reminded all students of the Ministry policy around Cell Phone use. Cell phones are not permitted in class unless directed otherwise by the classroom teacher. Help us highlight your high school journey by submitting!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">FSS in Central Europe</h2>30 Frontenac students and 5 staff travelled together to central Europe over the March Break to participate in an Education First (EF) tour to learn about the history of the region and to experience the local culture of five central European countries. Together, they learned a waltz in Vienna, visited a Gothic church in Prague, and saw the world famous Glockenspiel in Munich, all the while learning about about the evolving cultures of modern Europe that are deeply tied to their rich and colourful histories. One of the most impactful memories was visiting the site of the former concentration camp at Dachau in Germany. It is hard to put words to the feelings this visit evoked for the group. We heard the stories and stood in places where unimaginable suffering occurred for thousands. This experience highlighted for all in the group the dangers of prejudice, dehumanization, and silence, while emphasizing personal responsibility in preventing future atrocities and upholding human rights.We'd like to thank all students who participated in this trip for their enthusiasm, participation and responsibility throughout the week, and to their families for supporting their children in embarking on this incredibly rich learning opportunity.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr"><img src="/images/363aca65-aa59-4263-a363-cad739fe6e5b?fingerprint=ppb20260326144258" alt="Prague group photo 2026" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></h2><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">FSS Athletics</h2>Bring on the warmer weather so that spring sports can have full practices outdoors please! <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Parking Reminders</h2>There have been a number of parking issues that have come to our attention recently. Students are asked to not park in spots reserved for staff. These spaces are indicated by two signs on either side of the main entrance to the school. We have lost several parking spaces at the school due to the volume of snow this winter, particularly at the very northeast portion of the Frontenac parking lot. We have noted that some students and visitors are parking at the northeast corner of the building (near the gym entrance) in non-designated parking areas. This is creating a "pinch point" for other vehicles and makes it impossible for busses to get through this area when they arrive near the end of the day. We are asking everyone to not park here and are encouraging people to use the spaces at the back of the school, including the outdoor basketball court. By using these spaces, this should solve the majority of problems. At peak times (morning drop off, lunch and at the end of the school day), we encourage all families, staff and students to be cautious and patient.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">FSS to Costa Rica-Spaces still Available!</h2><img src="/images/358d274b-48bc-4867-801b-358e81a980ed?fingerprint=ppb20251217013513" alt="Costa Rica QR Code" width="278" height="285" style="boxSizing:border-box;borderStyle:none;height:285px;maxWidth:100%;objectFit:cover;display:inline-block;marginBottom:0.5rem;float:right;marginLeft:1.25rem;width:278px">FSS is going to Costa Rica at the 2027 March break – and we would love it if you would like to join us! March 6 NewsletterSpring is in the air. This is a time for renewal, change and for warmer weather, especially after this long winter. We will hold Wiarton Willie to his promise for an early spring this year! Although we often celebrate the success of all our students, we are particularly proud of our cast and crew of Treasure Island; A New Adventure. This week saw the culmination of months of planning, rehearsals, designing the sets, construction of props, as well as welcoming the next generation of Falcons through our Specialist High Skill Majors programs to highlight our passion for the arts at FSS. Frontenac athletes also participated against some of the top wrestlers in Peterborough and swimmers in Windsor through OFSAA competition. Our girls curling team will have to wait until after March Break for their OFSAA competition in Thunder Bay. A reminder to all of our parents that our Parent/Teacher night will be held Thursday, March 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The booking of appointments will open next week at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 11th. We look forward to seeing you all then.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Student Trustees for 2026/27</h2>Congratulations to FSS students Victoria McCourt and Mathew Katz for the appointments as LDSB student trustees for the 2026/27 school year. Mathew will be filling the role of the Urban Student Trustee and Victoria will be the Indigenous Student Trustee. Mathew wants to "specifically hope to be able to work on issues related to environmental sustainability and anti-racism. Congratulations to our girls hockey team that had a thrilling semi-final victory over Holy Cross to reach the city final. Eventually, a short handed lineup fell to Napanee in the finals to earn a silver medal in KASSAA sports. After winning EOSSAA in February, Frontenac Swimmers headed to Windsor this past week for OFSAA. OFSAA swimming sees over 2000 athletes and our Falcons placed 24th out of the 308 teams from across Ontario. Our Open Girls team (Skylar Kalverda, Jordan Noonan, Olivia Serson, Emma Gow and Mae Gillis) not only brought home the bronze medal in their free relay but also finished third in all their events combined. New to OFSAA this year was the mixed free relay where Greta Kalverda, Evelyn Moore, Sam Gurd and Ty Huddleston placed fifth overall. That was just one of Greta's three top ten finishes as she placed fifth and sixth in her individual events. Our 16 other athletes experienced many personal bests with our relays dropping up to twelve seconds off their qualifying time. Winning silver medals were Griffin Elliot in Automotive Service, Alex Bulch in Electrical Installations, and Xavier Lasko in Plumbing. Senior leaders worked with students in our feeder schools to highlight some of the opportunities and activities that a Specialist High Skills Major can open pathway opportunities for. Frontenac is proud to offer four  Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Sectors :Arts & Culture (good for teachers, graphic designers, architects etc.)Business - only school in board to offer this sector (retail and marketing careers)Construction - (trade related and apprenticeship programs)Health & Wellness (health care or fitness careers)All of these programs offer expanded opportunities for students in that specific sector. For example,  First Aid /CPR certification, Health & Safety certification, Elective workshops, Experiential Learning through Co-operative Education placements, and Reach Ahead activities that all provide training, skills and experiences for the next step after high school. Experiences can be programed for all pathways including Workplace, College or University. Students are asked to not park in spots reserved for staff. These spaces are indicated by two signs on either side of the main entrance to the school. We have lost several parking spaces at the school due to the volume of snow this winter, particularly at the very northeast portion of the Frontenac parking lot. We have noted that some students and visitors are parking at the northeast corner of the building (near the gym entrance) in non-designated parking areas. This is creating a "pinch point" for other vehicles and makes it impossible for busses to get through this area when they arrive near the end of the day. We are asking everyone to not park here and are encouraging people to use the spaces at the back of the school, including the outdoor basketball court. By using these spaces, this should solve the majority of problems. At peak times (morning drop off, lunch and at the end of the school day), we encourage all families, staff and students to be cautious and patient.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">FSS School to Community</h2>Each year, the Frontenac School to Community class organizes the Acts of Kindness initiative around Valentines day. Students and staff are asked to share a kind message on paper hearts about an individual or a group of students that demonstrate kindness through everyday or extraordinary interactions at FSS. At the end of the AoK campaign, the collective acts are shared in the main foyer at FSS for all to see how doing small acts of kindness can make a powerful impact on the community overall. As well last week, our student athletes, along with their PALs competed in a Bocce ball tournament against other schools in the Kingston area. These contests, organized by the University, challenge students to think critically, solve complex problems, and apply their mathematical reasoning skills in creative ways. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication our students showed in representing our school. Limestone District School Board Welcomes 2026–2027 Student Trustees

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2026–2027 Student Trustees, who will be formally welcomed at the April meeting of the Board.Student trustees play an important role in bringing student perspectives to board-level discussions, helping ensure that student voice is reflected in decision-making across the district. Semester two is well underway, and Frontenac Secondary School is buzzing with activity. Highlights of this month have included our Black History Month event in the library , where students enjoyed a variety of delicious home made foods, and enjoyed hearing the story from Queen's University Equity Ambassador Bisola Olaseni and our Grade 9 Healthy Relationships Workshops, where various community partners and members of the FSS Ophelia group discussed Relationships: the good, the bad and the ugly with our grade 9 students. We are also having a number of our winter sports teams wrap up KASSAA and EOSSAA competition with some of our student athletes preparing for all Ontario championships. Next week brings March, and the highly anticipated FSS play Treasure Island.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Black History Month</h2><img src="/images/fe8beaaa-2fa7-436c-8a0b-c78c32be9c85?fingerprint=ppb20260219222524" alt="BHM3" width="271" height="361" style="width:271px;height:361px;display:inline-block;float:left"><img src="/images/b9db6111-4cac-4335-84f1-0bed2c72d2fb?fingerprint=ppb20260219222306" alt="BHM2" width="399" height="300" style="width:399px;height:300px;display:inline-block">On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Frontenac Secondary’s Multicultural Team hosted a Black History Month celebration during lunch period. The event included food from different Black cultural groups such as Nigerian and Jamaican, music by African artists, some multicultural trivia from the FSS Trivia Team, and a guest speaker. It was a great event to socialize with peers. Among the events, the MCT also invited Bisola Olaseni, Lead Equity and Ambassador from Queen’s Health Sciences Outreach & Summer Program. She came in as an African-Canadian speaker, who came to Canada as a young child. She described her life in Canada so far, and gave some inspiring words about discovering one’s place in their community and motivating students to find their passions and be ambitious in life. Olaseni said, “Coming to FSS felt like a full-circle moment, an opportunity to give back, to inspire, and to remind students that their stories, identities, and ambitions are valid and powerful.”The celebration had a major focus on spreading diversity as well as appreciation of African and black culture around the school. It was meant to be an informative event, but also a display of the creations of African peoples. The event was a success. A lot of students attended the celebration, and conclusively were able to learn more about black culture and discuss among their peers. Vrain Rikhi, founder of the MCT, expressed: “When I saw so many students come in, I mean there weren’t even enough seats, it really made me happy because it made our message more widespread.”Everyone on the MCT worked hard to create such an event. In particular, Gabi Macfarlane was one of the students who created the playlist for the event, which played over the course of the day. The music was a mix of many different African artists, and gave the students examples of different kinds of music created by black artists.Macfarlane hopes that moving forward, more people will join the multicultural team. Not just people of colour, but people of many other different cultures, so everyone can work together and celebrate their own cultures, no matter what those may be. As a whole, the Multicultural Team wants to really leave a mark on Frontenac, to gather people that will keep the team going in future years, and to create a lasting change in the community that will create a welcome space for everyone.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Student Services</h2>Although students are just settling in to their semester 2 classes, the course request period for the 2026-27 school year is soon coming to a close! This process is an important one for students as they continue their post-secondary planning. The winter sports season is the second and most complicated one to navigate with the winter holidays and exams creating natural breaks in the schedules. A further complication this year were the numerous snow days that caused the cancellation and postponement of KASSAA games and exhibition events. There are eleven KASSAA sports offered at Frontenac during the winter season. This year we had 229 student athletes and 34 staff and community coaches and managers. Special shout out to our junior girls, junior boys and senior boys relay teams who came first in both of their relays. These hands on experiences help to deepen the understanding of the curriculum and to learn what life was like decades ago.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">FSS Parking</h2>There have been a number of parking issues that have come to our attention recently. Students are asked to not park in spots reserved for staff. These spaces are indicated by two signs on either side of the main entrance to the school. We have lost several parking spaces at the school due to the volume of snow this winter, particularly at the very northeast portion of the Frontenac parking lot. We have noted that some students and visitors are parking at the northeast corner of the building (near the gym entrance) in non-designated parking areas. This is creating a "pinch point" for other vehicles and makes it impossible for busses to get through this area when they arrive near the end of the day. We are asking everyone to not park here and are encouraging people to use the spaces at the back of the school, including the outdoor basketball court. By using these spaces, this should solve the majority of problems. Dear Families,I hope everyone had a good, short week following the Family Day Weekend. We have had a small taste of warmer weather recently, though we know there may still be more winter days to come. As we head toward the end of February, I would like to share a few updates with Limestone families:2026-2027 School Year CalendarThank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar Survey. Approximately 3,700 responses were submitted from families, staff, and community members. We appreciate your time and providing the feedback.As shared previously, the school year calendar for 2026-2027 presents unique challenges, with Labour Day falling unusually late on September 7, and Easter occurring just four days after March Break. Across all three school boards (Limestone DSB, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic DSB, and Hastings and Prince Edward County DSB) Option 1 was the preferred choice, and Option 2 ranked second and third, with only marginal differences in support.Following further review of the potential calendars, and considering potential financial implications, it was determined that implementing Option 1 would create additional costs for all three boards. Given that Option 2 very closely aligns with Option 1, differing by only one day and without the associated financial implications, all three boards supported Option 2, with the school year starting September 1 (P.A. Carried.</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Approved Absences</h3>Chair McGregor indicated that regrets were received from Trustee Morning to have her absence from tonight’s meeting be approved due to illness.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Presentation/Delegation</h3><details open="false"><summary>LDSB Continuing Education: A Closer Look at the Personal Support Worker Program</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true"><img src="/images/1f82cff8-a9e2-40aa-aabd-7bec84bbe0a7?fingerprint=ppb20260220152728" alt="Personal Support Worker Presentation Title Slide" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block">Associate Superintendent Blackburn welcomed Principal Kate Myers, staff member Caitlin Turcotte, and student Luciana Xavier Vandermeer. An overview of Continuing Education programs was provided, with a focus on the PSW program as a strong example of Ministry‑supported community partnership. Principal Myers outlined the six Continuing Education programs offered: International and Indigenous Languages, Adult English as a Second Language (ESL), Get Set (Skills Education and Training), teacher‑assisted self‑study/correspondence credits, fee‑for‑service interest courses, and the PSW program.The PSW program, normally tuition‑based, has been tuition‑free for approximately five years through Ministry funding, currently committed until March 31, 2026. The program operates as a “living classroom” in partnership with the County of Lennox and Addington at the John M. Parrott Centre long‑term care home, supported through multiple funding waves, with an additional application pending. The accelerated five‑month program emphasizes dignity, respect, compassion, and real‑world learning, integrating students early into the long‑term care environment. The program includes 330 hours of theory and lab instruction, 110 hours of supervised placement, two additional 100‑hour unsupervised placements, and the opportunity to earn six secondary school credits where applicable. Successful completion of the provincial PSW exam is required.Since September 2024, 78 students have enrolled, with a 71% completion rate and a 100% employment rate among graduates, exceeding provincial targets. Wrap‑around supports help reduce barriers by covering items such as scrubs, footwear, transportation, rent, and groceries. Strong provincial and local demand for PSWs was noted, particularly in light of upcoming long‑term care builds. The program meets provincial curriculum standards and has completed quality assurance certification. Ms. Turcotte spoke to the supportive learning environment, the value of the living classroom model, and the program’s focus on dignity, independence, individualized care, privacy, and safety. Ms. Xavier Vandermeer shared her experience as a recent graduate, highlighting the program’s high standards, strong supports, and impact on her personal and professional development. Chair McGregor thanked the team for their presentation and opened the floor to questions.</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Reports From Officers</h3><details open="false"><summary>Chair's Report</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">"As we gather for our February meeting, I want to take a moment to recognize the energy across our schools as we begin a new semester. Hallways and classrooms are buzzing, and it’s been wonderful to see students engaged in winter activities that support learning, well-being, and connection during these colder months.Looking ahead, we will soon be launching our 2026-2027 budget survey. This is an important opportunity for members of the public to share their feedback and perspectives as we begin planning the budget for the next school year. Community input plays a meaningful role in informing our budget-making process, and we encourage families and community members to participate when the survey opens.I would also like to highlight Pink Shirt Day on February 25. Schools across the district will be recognizing this day as a visible show of our shared commitment to kindness, inclusion, and respect. We are proud of the many ways our schools foster safe and welcoming environments where every student feels they belong.Thank you to our students, staff, and school communities for the positive start to the semester and for the important work happening each day across our district. That concludes my report.”</div></details><details open="false"><summary>Director's Report</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">Director Burra stated: “Good evening Trustees and the viewing public. It is hard to believe, but we are already a few weeks into the second half of the 2025-2026 school year. First term and first semester report cards have been sent home or are going home this week, secondary students are making course selections for next year, Choices at 9 programs have completed their processes, Choices at 7 programs will be making decisions soon, March Break is just around the corner, and planning is well underway for the 2026-2027 school year. Preparations for next year will continue to ramp up and we eagerly await the release of the budget for next school year that may well be delayed given Queen’s Park is in recess until March 23. I have a number of highlights and upcoming events that I would like to share this evening. One significant highlight occurred on February 4 just before our EPOC meeting when a Black History kick-off event was held at LCVI. While I know Senior Staff and some Trustees were able to attend the most of the event due to our EPOC meeting, there were several performances highlighting the significance of Black History in Canada and the local region.  It should also be noted that this February is the 30th anniversary of Black History Month in Canada. A big thank you to teacher consultant Andrea Barrow and students and staff of LCVI for hosting this event. I should also note that the very impressive banners highlighting significant Black Canadians that were displayed at the event are now part of a travelling historical exhibit that will be making the rounds at different secondary schools this month and some elementary schools in the spring. Andrea Barrow has also created a range of resources to support Black History Month in LDSB schools, as well as resources to support curriculum delivery in schools.A significant upcoming event is what we are hoping will be an outstanding Skills Competition at St. Lawrence College next week on February 25 and February 26. Almost 500 Limestone students, Grades 4 to 12, will be participating across over 25 secondary events and six elementary events. The Skills Competition is yet another example of community partnership that showcases critical skills events and the local community college.Winter KASSAA seasons have either ended or will be ending prior to March Break. Tomorrow evening the girls volleyball championships will be held at St. Lawrence College, and Friday evening St. Lawrence hosts the boys’ basketball finals. It should be noted that LDSB has one team in two of the finals and both teams in the other two finals.I would like to also highlight Limestone’s participation in larger community initiatives that involve multiple local partners in supporting more services for children and youth in areas across Limestone. The Unnamed Youth project and the ACES and Resilience Coalition of KFL&A. Both of these initiatives bring together partners to better serve children and youth. This is exciting work that provides hope and support for many youth requiring improved services and/or access to services.One final highlight that I will draw Trustees’ attention to is our continued emphasis on collecting voice from the communities we serve. Tonight, Associate Superintendent Gollogly will share an overview of the school year calendar feedback and look for Trustee approval of the 2026-2027 calendar. As mentioned by Chair MacGregor, in the next couple of weeks or so, we will be providing an opportunity for input on the 2026-2027 budget. Additionally we will also gauge interest from families in virtual school programming for next year. And finally, in the spring, all Limestone families will have the opportunity to respond to a family engagement survey. Limestone school communities and staff are critical partners, and our schools are representative of the communities we serve; we have a responsibility to be responsive to community voice and changing circumstances. And on a final note, I would like to thank all Limestone staff who contributed to the 2025 United Way campaign. We just received the final tally and LDSB staff contributed almost $50,000 to the campaign which provides critical supports to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable people in KFL&A, including students and families we serve.Thank you, Chair McGregor. That concludes my report."</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Reports</h3><details open="false"><summary>OPBSA Report</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">Chair McGregor shared that she will be attending the OPSBA regional meeting scheduled for February 28, to be held virtually. The meeting will review proposed draft changes to the organizational structure including an opportunity to provide input regarding the inclusion of representation from each board at local regional tables. Following this meeting, the membership will vote on the proposed amendments on March 12, 2026.</div></details><details open="false"><summary>Student Trustees' Report</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">Student Trustee Ismail stated: “Good afternoon, Trustees and members of the public. We held our Interschool Council (ISC) meeting February 10, chaired by Mia Comeau and Rachel Kolosov. It was a special meeting to host elections for incoming Student Trustees for the 2026-2027 school year. This year, elections took place differently, as there were partial Tri-Board Transportation cancellations on that day. As a result, the elections took place in a hybrid format. Candidates were able to participate in the elections remotely or in-person to ensure the elections remained accessible for students. We’ve had a total of 13 candidates; three Indigenous, four Rural, six Urban, who’ve shown interest and took part in elections for the Student Trustee. It has increased from previous years and shows that more students are feeling empowered to take part in governance and student leadership. During the election period, we had set a goal to increase visibility and the number of applications, made possible especially thanks to the efforts of the communications team. Within the Council as well, we have spent time during our meetings to brainstorm ways schools can raise awareness for the positions as well. Last month, the Interschool Council was invited to support a board initiative connected to a provincial conference for Directors and Supervisory Officers across Ontario, centered on the theme Leaders as Agents of Change. The goal of the project, run by Associate Superintendent Sartor and Ms. Grange was to create a short compilation video that gathers student voices and lived experiences. We were able to gather participants from Kingston Secondary School, Granite Ridge Education Centre, and Napanee District Secondary School, and over the past few weeks, those students shared their thoughts and experiences to a variety of prompts. Their voices, representing local student perspectives, are valued and being brought to conversations provincially. This concludes our February ISC report. Thank you.</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Reports for Action</h3><details open="false"><summary>Recommended School Year Calendar 2026-2027</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">Associate Superintendent Gollogly presented a report recommending approval of the 2026-2027 school year calendar. It was reported that approximately 3,700 responses were received through the consultation process, with the majority submitted by families (approximately 80%), followed by staff (approximately 20%), and a small percentage from other community organizations.It was noted that, across the three boards, Option 1 was consistently rated as the preferred calendar. However, Option 1 was identified as having financial implications for certain employee groups due to a proposed August start date. As a result, alternative options were reviewed to balance interest group feedback with operational and financial considerations.Option 2 was presented as the recommended calendar, as it most closely aligns with Option 1 while avoiding significant financial impact. It was noted that Option 2 begins on September 1, includes standard Professional Activity days, provides a board‑designated break day prior to March Break, and concludes with a Professional Activity day on June 29. Based on consultation feedback and operational considerations, approval of Option 2 for the 2026-2027 school year calendar was recommended.MOTION MOVED by Trustee Ruttan and seconded by Trustee Neill that Trustees approve the recommended Calendar Option 2 for the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar. Carried.</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Reports for Information </h3><details open="false"><summary>Trustee Distribution</summary><div data-lexical-collapsible-content="true">Superintendent Young presented a report regarding Trustee determination and distribution in preparation for the 2026 municipal election. It was noted that this report is brought forward on a cyclical basis and that Trustees who served during the previous review in 2021-2022 were acknowledged for their work, as the last process involved extensive discussion and adjustments to electoral boundaries.Trustees were directed to the agenda package, which includes background information on electoral boundaries, legislative requirements, and key timelines related to the upcoming municipal election. It was reported that the Ministry has advised that it will not be issuing a new Trustee determination and distribution report for 2026, therefore, the existing 2022 report remains the reference document. Key dates outlined in the report provide a general timeline for nominations, filings, and voting, noting that specific dates may vary slightly.Superintendent Young reported that LDSB currently has nine elected Trustee positions, consistent with provincial legislation governing boards with an electoral population between 100,000 and 149,999. Based on current projections, the Board’s electoral population for 2026 is approximately 141,856, and as a result, the allowable number of elected Trustees will not change for the upcoming election. The Board will continue with nine elected Trustees, in addition to the Indigenous Trustee.Legislative requirements were reviewed, including the Board’s obligation to pass a resolution regarding the designation of low‑population municipalities. It was noted that Limestone has, for several elections, designated the northern portion of the Board as low‑population municipalities in order to ensure reasonable representation, and this approach remains consistent with past practice.Trustee responsibilities in advance of the 2026 election were outlined, including finalizing the determination and distribution, approving Trustee honoraria for the next term, and appointing a compliance audit committee. These items will be brought forward in future reports for Trustee approval.Trustee distribution maps and population data were reviewed, including ward‑level information for Kingston. It was noted that there has been no notification of changes to Kingston’s electoral wards and that only minor population variations were identified since the previous election. While some student populations were not fully reflected in the current data, these figures will be updated in a subsequent report. Overall, it was reported that the existing ward‑to‑Trustee distribution remains well-balanced, reflecting the effectiveness of the adjustments made during the previous review.</div></details><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Adjournment</h3>MOTION MOVED BY: Trustee Lloyd and seconded by Trustee Godkin that the meeting adjourn.
