Life has been busy at FSS and next week will see the culmination of many extra curricular activities with performances and banquets as well as classroom activities in the form of tests, final projects, culminating tasks, EQAO testing for math and review for exams. Please join us in celebrating the year in sports at Frontenac. This year end celebration is a culmination of the 2025-26 school year. For the spring season alone, Frontenac athletics counted 307 student athletes that played rugby, ultimate, soccer, girls softball, baseball, and track and field. Supporting our athletes, we are proud of the 32 community and staff coaches that made a positive difference in learning through sport. Competing as a Unified pairing made up of one Special Olympic athlete and one mainstream athlete, Gaije and Garrett came home with 3 gold and 2 silver medals. Gemma and Sidney also competed as a Unified team, and won 2 gold, 2 silver and a bronze! Cash and debit card is accepted. The goal is to promote school spirit and social interaction amongst FSS students. There will be two more pop-up events during lunch on Monday, June 8th and Friday, June 12th. See you there!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Library and Computers</h2>Now is the time to return all library books borrowed from the Frontenac Library. Students will be getting an email with a list of books that they have outstanding. Grade 12 students should have already received a paper copy of this list. This will include textbooks as well as library books. If students need to keep their textbooks in order to study for their exams,  they will bring their textbooks and return them at their exam. Students who forget to bring their textbooks to their exams will be expected to return them to the main office the following day.  If there are any questions, concerns or errors regarding the books signed out to students, they should come talk to Ms. Purbhoo in the Library Learning Commons as soon as possible.  Amnesty will be given for all books that belong to Frontenac and Acadie as well.Students are also able to return computers to the library if they are not needed for the rest of the school year and they do not anticipate needing them based on course selections for next year. For students that have computers and do anticipate needing them for next year, we are asking families to store them safely at home for the summer and to perform system updates during the last week of August to have them ready for school in September. Any questions related to school board computers can be forwarded to Mark McKenna at mckennam@limestone.on.ca.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Computing</h2>On June 1, we sent 18 students to participate in Sydenham High School’s inaugural SHS Hack-A-Thon event, the first hackathon within our board. At this year’s event, students were challenged to address the negative impact of increasing smartphone use on Canadian youth. Students then had the entire day to come up with a tech solution to help with the problem. This was an opportunity for them to collaborate, be creative, and apply technical skills across a variety of domains. In teams of 2 to 5 members, our students brainstormed, programmed, improvised, created artwork, and presented their apps or games to a panel of judges from industry and academia. We encourage all families to read the schedule. With the release of the exam schedule, the school year is officially picking up speed. With only 15 instructional days left before grade 12 exams, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting much brighter. The band trip to Canada's Wonderland was a tremendous success and the focus for the arts will shift to the final concert and year end arts banquet. Our athletes continue to impress in the spring season as well. Track athletes are posting personal best times and distances, the rugby teams steadily improved all season, soccer and ultimate narrowly missed out on advancing for city and provincial championships and baseball is currently undefeated in KASSAA play. At grade forums last week, the central themes of kindness and respect for the community were emphasized as well as to finish the school year strong. We can do this Falcons!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: start;">FSS Rocks Olympiad</h2>A huge thank you to Student Council for organizing a successful Olympiad event! This annual event is one of the best days at Frontenac and is a reflection of the effort and enthusiasm of the student leaders at FSS. The Olympiad event celebrates the success of our clubs, bands and teams and epitomizes what it means to be a Falcon. With a school wide pep rally in the morning, a Dominos Pizza sponsored lunch and fun games and events in the afternoon, FSS School Spirit was on full display. Parents wishing to make a financial donation instead can make a contribution via their School Day accounts that will be used to purchase breakfast items. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Arts</h2>The FSS Music program is heading to The Festival of Music at Canada’s Wonderland on Tuesday, May 19th. At this point our trip is now full! Music students are excited to share our music at the festival!  The Year End Performing Arts concert will happen on Monday, June 8th from 7-9pm in the library! Come hear our performance ensembles and support our students in the arts! The Arts Banquet will be held on Friday, June 12th at 4pm. FSS speed and skill was on full display in the opening seconds of the match as Jenna Martin scored a try that saw her kick the ball twice and outrun the Bears defence to score a sensational opening try. With the game tied at 12 with a few minutes left, Delaney Brule followed up on a brilliant run from Olivia Kyte to score the go ahead try. Best of luck to the girls who travel to Lindsay for OFSAA June 4-6. Summer Session is a great option for students who wish to complete an additional credit (new) or who may need to repeat a course during the summer. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement. Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. Grade 12 Exit Survey

As part of Ontario Ministry of Education expectations, all graduating students are provided with an opportunity to complete a Grade 12 Exit Survey. This survey gives students the chance to share their experiences in secondary school, their plans after graduation, and how prepared they feel for their next steps.The information collected helps schools and the Limestone District School Board better understand student needs and improve programs, guidance supports, and transition planning. In particular, the results are used to strengthen pathways into postsecondary education, apprenticeships, work, and community life, and to ensure future students are well-supported as they move beyond high school.The survey is voluntary and anonymous. All responses are combined and reported in a summarized format to protect student privacy. Results are used for system planning and are shared with school staff, and board leadership to support ongoing improvement.

Rugby, track and field, soccer, ultimate and baseball are the sports for the spring season with hundreds of young athletes wearing the garnet and grey. Students in period three classes helped to beautify the school grounds last week by cleaning up the courtyards, the practice fields and the front of the school. We are still waiting for the arrival of plants to complete our front garden overhaul! The arts department has now filled their trip to Canada's Wonderland and will be preparing for their final performances for the school year in early June. Teaching staff are also organizing final field trips and school wide events to raise awareness for various people and special causes. As always, it is a good time to be a Falcon!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: start;">FSS Admin News</h2>It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we prepare to say farewell to Shannon Tyner. Shannon's positive energy and infectious smile have been a tremendous gift for all staff and students at Acadie and Frontenac Secondary School this year. We know our school community wish her the best of luck as she transfers to the next chapter in her life. We know wherever you go, the people that you encounter will be better for the experience. To help fill the gap for the remainder of the school year, we welcome back an old friend. James Bonham-Carter will be returning as principal until the end of the school year. The big reveal shared was that he will be a member of the Wolfpack attending North Carolina State.  It is wonderful to see all of Wyatt's friends, families, coaches and in particular his elite level coaching staff from Toronto based Flying Angels.  We wish Wyatt all the best! As part of this celebration, graduating students, as well as younger secondary students, are recognizing graduates’ achievements in a variety of ways. However, we want to inform families about one particular activity that has become increasingly concerning from a safety standpoint. “Senior Assassin” is a popular game among graduating students across North America that involves students “assassinating” one another using water guns, gel projectiles, or foam darts. The last person who avoids being “assassinated” wins. While the game is intended to be harmless, many of the imitation weapons used closely resemble real firearms. Police services are warning that these replica firearms pose significant safety risks, particularly in public spaces. Finally a little sunshine! After persevering through some rain day cancellations for sports events, it is great to see the spring teams back outside for training sessions and league play. Teachers are planning for year end field trips to support the learning that is happening in the classroom. With another successful Coffee House completed as well as a performance at the annual Kiwanis festival, the FSS bands continue to practice their craft to get ready for year end concerts <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Stratford Festival Trip: May 21-22</h2><img src="/images/b67b8fa6-1c31-4fad-897f-3480820308d4?fingerprint=ppb20260409184726" alt="April 10 2026THEATRE" width="328" height="212" style="width:328px;height:212px;display:inline-block;float:left">The English Department at Frontenac Secondary School is thrilled to offer students the chance to experience world-class theatre at the Stratford Festival this spring. From May 21–22, students will travel to Stratford to see live performances of The Tempest and Something Rotten!.In addition to attending both shows, students will take part in a pre-show workshop for Something Rotten! where they’ll explore the behind-the-scenes world of theatre production. There will also be scheduled free time for students to explore the town.The cost of the trip is $340 per student, which includes coach transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfast, the workshop, and tickets to both performances. Permission forms and full payment are due May 1st to Ms. Dembinski or Ms. Cavers, and payment can be made on School Day. Students learned about her experience as Director of Marketing at Indigo, as well as her new role as Chief Marketing Officer at Cabot Management.Jules shared the importance of building connections, networking, and arranging informational interviews to create future opportunities. Students also gained insight into the promotional strategies used at Indigo, along with specific marketing initiatives for Cabot golf resorts.It was an extremely valuable session that allowed students to see real-world examples of the concepts they are learning in class. We sincerely thank Jules for taking the time to speak with and inspire our students.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2"> FSS School to Community</h2>On Thursday, April 16th, the School to Community program and their PALs competed in their final Special Olympics qualifier of the year - floorball! These days were filled with sunshine, smiles and soccer! The seniors faced some tough challenges against AAA teams from the Niagara region. Despite missing a third of their team, they pulled out some wins and close losses. After the first day of soccer excitement, both teams went to see the Niagara Falls then hit the outlets. The next day, the juniors girls, with their full roster, showed up to play. This four game round robin tournament required them to be on their A-game, and the girls were tired but relentless in their efforts. They won the first game in penalty shots, and the next two in regulation time. It all came down to their last game facing the host school’s team on their own field. Down two goals at halftime in this final game, our team never gave up hope or effort with constant cheerleading from the bench. Quinn Windsor kickstarted their comeback and Victoria Mayfield-Higgins tied it up with minutes to go in regulation time. As part of this celebration, graduating students, as well as younger secondary students, are recognizing graduates’ achievements in a variety of ways. However, we want to inform families about one particular activity that has become increasingly concerning from a safety standpoint. “Senior Assassin” is a popular game among graduating students across North America that involves students “assassinating” one another using water guns, gel projectiles, or foam darts. The last person who avoids being “assassinated” wins. While the game is intended to be harmless, many of the imitation weapons used closely resemble real firearms. Police services are warning that these replica firearms pose significant safety risks, particularly in public spaces. In the article, a Waterloo Regional Police officer explains that it can be extremely difficult for police or members of the public to distinguish imitation firearms from real firearms, particularly at a distance or in high-stress situations. As a result, any report involving a possible weapon must be treated as real until proven otherwise, creating serious risk for everyone involved.  With this in mind, we ask that graduating students refrain from participating in the “Senior Assassin” game. Student and staff safety are always our top priority, and we encourage students to recognize and celebrate achievements, including graduation, in ways that ensure everyone remains safe. Speak with Student Services today to explore how co-op can work for you!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">FSS Student Services</h2>May 1st is a big day in Student Services land! <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Midterm report cards will be distributed in period 4 on Friday, May 1st. </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">For post-secondary applicants, May 1st is the day semester 2 midterm marks will be available for viewing by Ontario Colleges and Universities. As such, there will be a flurry of activity for the first couple weeks of May as there are still lots of offers to come!</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">May 1st is also the deadline for Ontario College Applicants to confirm their offers. The deadline to confirm offers from Ontario Universities isn't until June 1st. </li></ul>If students have any questions or concerns, they can book an appointment to meet with our Student Services Team :) <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Summer Session</h2>Registration for Summer Session is now open! Summer Session is a great option for students who wish to complete an additional credit (new) or who may need to repeat a course during the summer. Summer Session courses are asynchronous e-learning courses offered through Minds Online and count as one of the online credits for that graduation requirement.  Session Dates: Summer Session runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 with no classes on Wednesday, July 1. Students are expected to be working on their course daily and can expect that completing the course will require approximately 5 hours of work each day.  Limestone Course Offerings: Grade 10: MPM 2D, ENG 2D, CHV 2O (1/2 credit) and GLC 2O (1/2 credit) Grade 11: NBE 3C, NBE 3U, MCR 3U, SBI 3U Grade 12: ENG 4C, ENG 4U, OLC 4O, SBI 4U Co-op:   Co-op starts on June 29th and can continue until August 7th.  Students taking co-op should speak with their Guidance Counsellor before registering.  Students must have their own placement prior to the start of Summer Session.   Interested in a course not offered by Limestone's Summer Session? Please contact your Guidance Counsellor as courses are available from other School Boards through the Ontario e-Learning Consortium (OeLC).  Guidance Counsellor's will register students for OeLC courses through Prism.  Students registering through Prism will be put on a waitlist and accepted when spots are made available.  It is important to note that students taking courses through the OeLC may not be able to access their courses if travelling outside of Canada during Summer Session depending on the parameters of access for each School Board. Deadline to ApplyThe equal consideration deadline for all Summer Session courses is May 1st.
